Veterans Memorial UPDATE
See the progress at the Smithville Texas Veterans Memorial Park. See Bill McGlaun’s angel. Thanks to everyone who has been involved in this process and made this entire project possible. We truly appreciate all the contributions of time, work, funding, and spirit that have gone into this Park.
The walls are finished, the bathroom structure is about done, and the Splash Park people will be getting to work as this year ends. The Mayor has been overseeing the concrete base that will anchor the angel to the earth to make sure that she doesn’t fly away with a big gust of wind.
In the donations going towards a matching grant, $14,400 has come in through cash donations, including $5,000 from Cody Palooza, $8,445 has come in through the scrap metal program, and the recent Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial raffle will provide an additional $5,656 that will go towards benches and trash/recycle stations, which will count towards the match. This is a total of about $28,500; only about $1,500 short of the match in only two months!
In considering the charities you want to support, please remember that we are very near our goal for the Seton matching grant. Every penny will help. After we meet the Seton match, we anticipate we will need about $200,000 more to complete this $700,000 project. DONATION FORM PDF to print.
We are truly grateful for the generosity here in Smithville and Bastrop County. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or go to www.texasmemorialpark.org for more information.
