Bios of Candidates:

Contestant #1 – Magen Weinheimer

MagenWeinheimer_3169wMagen is the 17-year-old daughter of Gary and Sophie Weinheimer, and is currently a junior at Smithville High School.

She has been an active member of Lady Tiger athletics, where she has participated in volleyball, basketball, cross-country and track since the 7th grade.  Magen is in the top 25% of her class, has served as a class officer for two years and is a member of the National Honor Society.  She is also an active member of the Student Council.  She has been a member of the Smithville FFA for eight years, and has served as an officer for two years.  Her freshman year, Magen was voted by her peers to serve as FFA Sweetheart.  She serves as president of her youth group at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in String Prairie, and volunteers at the Vacation Bible School that is held in the summer.  Magen was also chosen as 2nd Runner-Up in the 2009 Jamboree Coronation.

In her spare time, Ms. Weinheimer can be found at Smooth Moves Dance studio where she has been a student for 14 years and currently teaches.  She also enjoys participating in church functions, reading the bible, hanging out with friends and family, watching movies and playing sports.   This year, Magen even volunteered her time to coach a Little Dribblers basketball team.

After graduating high school, Magen plans to attend college and obtain a degree that will allow her to work in the medical field.

Contestant #2 – Kimberly Whalon

Kimberly is the 16-year-old daughter of Timothy and Chloe Whalon and is currently a junior at Smithville High School.

She is on the Varsity cheerleading squad, where she currently serves as Captain.  Kim was a UCA All-Star cheerleader for four years.  She is also a member of the Pals/PAX program and is on the power lifting team, where she advanced as a Regional Qualifier.  She is a member of the Smithville Tiger Band, and has been selected as an All-Region band member for the past three years.  Her sophomore year, Kim served as Drum Major for the band.  Kim is a member of St. James Baptist church, where she participates in the DIVA mentoring program.  She is also a member of the Delta Gem mentoring program.

In her spare time, Ms. Whalon enjoys cooking and baking, listening to music, reading, being with her family and laughing with friends.

After graduating high school, Kimberly plans to attend Texas State University in San Marcos, majoring in business management or marketing to become a wedding planner.

Contestant #3 – Kayty Cropley

Kayty is the 16-year-old daughter of Tim and Stacey Cropley, and is currently a sophomore at Smithville High School.

She was a member of the Lady Tiger Varsity Softball team and JV Track team for the 2008-2009 season.  Kayty was also involved in various cheerleader groups from 2001-2007, and received the Coach’s Award in 2007.  She is an active member of the United Methodist church youth group, where she participated and helped with their Vacation Bible School.  She volunteers with Ready, Set, Read – a program where high school students read with younger students throughout the school district.

In her spare time, Ms. Cropley enjoys being with family, drawing, reading and listening to music.  She likes taking pictures, going to Sea Camp and reading fashion magazines.  She also volunteers her time with the Special Olympics.

After graduating high school, Kayty plans to enlist in the U.S. Navy, then attend Texas A&M in Galveston to study Marine Biology.

Contestant #4 – Kayde Rinehart

Kayde is the 16-year-old daughter of Richard and Crystal Gartman, and is currently a junior at Smithville High School.

She was a member of the Color Guard and Smithville Tiger Band her freshman year, where she played French horn.  She has been an active member of the Smithville Athletics program since 7th grade and currently is on the Varsity softball team and JV basketball team.  Kayde has participated in 4-H and FFA for the past several years, raising broilers. Last year, Kayde was awarded Grand Champion in Broilers.

In her spare time, Ms. Rinehart likes to sing, text her friends, help her little sister with softball and spend time with her family.  She has also helped with the Little Dribblers basketball program, and volunteers with the Vacation Bible School at Ridgeway Baptist Church, where she has been an active member of the youth group for the past four years.

After graduating high school, Kayde plans to go to college to be a Radiologist.

Contestant #5 – Hunter Haney

Hunter_3185wHunter is the 17-year-old daughter of Jerry and Sharon Haney, and is currently a junior at Smithville High School.

She is a member of the SHS student council, serving as Parliamentarian, and also serves as Junior Class Secretary.  She is involve in the PAX program and is in the top 25% of her class.  Hunter has been dancing for 14 years, and is a member of the Cadence Dance Company with Inspirations Dance Studio.  She also has been teaching dance for the past two years.

In her spare time, Ms. Haney enjoys dancing, fishing, reading and working with children.  She also likes spending time with family and friends and napping.

After graduating high school, Hunter plans to attend Baylor University and become a Child Life specialist.

Contestant #6 – Caitlin Dees

CaitlinDees_3338wCaitlin is the 16-year-old daughter of John and Joy Dees, and is currently a sophomore at Smithville High School.

Caitlin is currently ranked #2 in the sophomore class.  She plays trumpet in the Smithville Tiger Band and was selected as a Trumpet Section leader.  Caitlin is involved extensively in the high school theater department, serving as vice president of the Drama Club and Assistant Stage Manager for the UIL One-Act Play.  She has performed in many plays including High School Musical, Rivers and Ravines, and held the lead role in Hamlette.  She is a member of the Varsity tennis team, where she plays mixed doubles and girl’s doubles.

In her spare time, Ms. Dees provides babysitting services for an exercise class at the Smithville Rec Center and pet sitting for neighbors.  She enjoys cooking, reading, writing, traveling, watching movies, drawing and spending time with her friends.

After graduation, Caitlin plans to attend college to study food sciences or hotel/restaurant management and would like to, one day, own a small restaurant of her own.

Contestant #7 – Courtney Dees

CourtneyDees_3343wCourtney is the 14-year-old daughter of John and Joy Dees, and is currently a freshman at Smithville High School.

Courtney is currently ranked in the top 5 of the freshman class.  She plays saxophone in the Smithville Tiger Band and was selected to the Region Band and was Freshman Marcher of the Week.  She earned top ranking while competing in UIL Solo and Ensemble.  She is a JV Cheerleader and plays singles on the Tiger tennis team.  Courtney is also involved in the Drama Club and UIL One-Act play, where she has served both as a crewmember and actress, performing the role of Queen Gertrude in the One-Act play “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead”.

In her spare time, Ms. Dees enjoys pet sitting for neighbors and babysitting.  She enjoys reading, writing, watching movies, playing tennis and spending time with her friends.

After graduation, Courtney plans to attend the University of Texas in Austin, and become a Chemist.

Contestant #8 – Kirsten Templeton

Kirstin_3150wKirsten is the 17-year-old daughter of Tina Templeton, and is currently a junior at Smithville High School.

She is a member of the Drama Club, and high school golf team.  Kirsten is a trainer for the high school football team, and is involved as an intern trainer for the Austin Turfcats.  This year, Kirsten was chosen by her peers as Homecoming Dutchess for the junior class.  She also had a poem published in a book of poetry titled “Inspired”.

In her spare time, Ms. Templeton enjoys spending time with close friends, texting, watching movies, making jewelry, writing poetry, acting and dancing.  She also likes playing games, taking pictures, exploring new places and learning how to drive.

After graduation, Kirsten plans to attend The University of Texas in Austin and major in Athletic Training.

 

To be a Queen Candidate:

  1. For the school year 2010-2011, candidates must be a high school student and living in the Smithville, Texas area.
  2. The candidates must compete at the Coronation of the Queen.
  3. The winner and her court must attend area festivals and events to represent Smithville, Texas and Jamboree.
  4. The winner must have a vehicle to tow the parade float or be able to obtain one for festivals and events.
